Artichoke Party #14

Theme: Stalks and Leaves

Location: The Rainforest Retreat

Year: 2019

Art: Paul McGhee

Invite backstory:

For the second Seattle party we turned the Artichoke Lady into the Space Needle and integrated her into the full invite, a little bit like the ‘In the Steamer’ art in AM #9.

This invite has the first use of ish signalling to our guests that it is not that you’re not invited to the party, it’s that we’re not having them every year.

The Stalks and Leaves tagline references the famous joke about how the Panda bear eats, shoots, and leaves.

Party Highlights

This party marks the debut of the 3rd great Artichoke Party chef and the revival of the Artichoke Crabcake. It also included a super human effort by Steve Hunt, my buddy living in Monterey . I wanted to bring up the delicious deep-fried Artichoke Hearts from the Giant Artichoke but they didn’t want to hassle shipping them.

So Steve went out and got a cooler, got dry ice, got 20 lbs of deep-fried hearts and then went to the UPS store and shipped them overnight to the party. One of the truly heroic moments in Artichoke Party history - thank you Steve!

We brought back the slippery slide and old school human foosball for this one. We had gotten a trampoline so we added the fun / terrifying activity of watching a bunch of kids jump as high as they can without killing each other or themselves. We also added added a basketball to take advantage of the new hoop in the driveway.

Another great Madness, lots of neighbors.
